These terms of use govern the use of the AethelWrite software as well as all associated services, features and content.

By installing, registering for or using AethelWrite, you agree to these terms.

2. Scope of Services

AethelWrite is professional authoring and publishing software that provides, among other things, the following features:

• Writing and project environment (Sanctuary)
• Story and worldbuilding management (Story Bible)
• AI-powered writing assistance (Ghostwriter)
• Manuscript analysis (Manuscript Lens)
• Formatting and export tools (Format Engine)

The specific range of features may vary depending on the version (Free, Pro, Enterprise).

3. Registration and User Account

A user account is required for certain features. You undertake to provide accurate information when registering and to keep your access credentials confidential.

4. Licence and Use

AethelWrite is provided as a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence. You may use the software solely within the scope of these terms.

The following are prohibited in particular:

• Reverse engineering, decompilation or modification of the software
• Transfer or sale of licences
• Use of the software to develop competing products
• Automated extraction or bulk processing of data outside the intended features

5. User Content

All content you create, import or store in AethelWrite (texts, notes, projects, metadata) remains your intellectual property. AethelWrite acquires no rights to your works.

The following applies to AI features:

• Content is processed solely to generate the requested results.
• Your texts are not used to train external AI models.
• Processed content is not stored permanently unless you have explicitly enabled this (e.g. cloud sync).

6. AI-Powered Features

AethelWrite provides AI-based tools (e.g. Ghostwriter, Manuscript Lens). These features are intended as assistance and do not replace human review.

You are responsible for:

• the factual accuracy of the content
• its legal admissibility
• compliance with copyright

AI output may contain errors or be incomplete.

7. Data Protection

AethelWrite processes personal data exclusively in accordance with the GDPR and only to the extent necessary to provide the software.

8. Updates and Changes

AethelWrite may provide updates, feature changes or security-related adjustments.

We reserve the right to update these terms of use as needed. You will be informed of any material changes.

9. Liability

AethelWrite is liable only for damage caused by intent or gross negligence. No liability is assumed for data loss, lost profits or consequential damage, to the extent permitted by law.

You are responsible for making regular backups of your projects.

10. Availability

We strive for high availability of the services but cannot guarantee uninterrupted use. Maintenance work or technical faults may lead to temporary limitations.

11. Termination

You can delete your user account at any time. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts in the event of a breach of these terms of use.

12. Governing Law

The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies. The place of jurisdiction is Cologne, to the extent permitted by law.
